Actually, it was only three hours on the cross, so it's an even smaller sacrifice. I've always wondered about why we make such a big deal out of this sacrifice, when there are countless examples from history of people giving up their lives for others. The captain of the Titanic, for example, gave up his life when he could have jumped on a lifeboat like the president of the White Star Line did and saved himself. Or how about all the mothers in the 1950s and earlier who toiled and sweated for decades to raise their kids and gave up careers and anything resembling a happy life (I'm talking about the ones in abusive marriages) so that their children could have a good life? Forty years of an abusive marriage compared to three hours on the cross? These are just two examples. There are many others.

I particularly liked this quotation from Twain:

"For God to take three days on a Cross out of a life of eternal happiness and mastership of the universe is a service which the least among us would be glad to do upon the like terms."

Some sacrifice!
