It is indeed. People like this lady don't realize how bigoted what they are saying is, but that doesn't change that it is what it is and I think actually seeing what it would look like can sometimes jar people into realizing how bigoted it actually is.

It's even worse when you actually see it done as opposed to simply imagining it!

"Imagine if she or anyone else had sent in the exact same letter about blacks or Jews."
-James Tracey

Let's see how that would look:

"I read an article in the Voice of the People, and the writer was right. I, too, am tired of the blacks trying to run everything."

"They do this because we don’t have anyone to stand up for what’s right and wrong and tell the blacks enough is enough. Everything the blacks want, this government lets them have their way. They didn’t want to earn less money than whites, to have public lynchings displayed, unequal opportunities for school and education, don’t want the word nigger in anything. This doesn’t seem to be a white nation anymore. No wonder this nation has gone to hell in a handbasket."

"Between Lyndon Johnson and the blacks, white people are getting tired of people denouncing them. Look what shape this nation is in. Do you think that God will help any nation that lets the blacks run everything? I don’t think so. There’s only one unforgivable sin, and I think that’s not knowing your place in society."

"So I say if the blacks are so disturbed by the word nigger and the lynching displays, just put them all on an island by themselves because the white people are tired of hearing all the garbage the blacks have to say. So keep your mouths shut. I’d rather people think I’m a fool than to open my mouth with all the garbage you blacks say; then people know you are a fool. All you have to do is to listen to a black man and you can tell they are uneducated."

"I’m not judging them. God will do that in due time, but I’m afraid the blacks are in for a rude awakening."

Geez, looks like something straight out of an Alabama newspaper circa 1960.

Interesting. it must be due to our incredibly effective government-controlling conspiracies that there are almost no atheists in prison. It can't possibly be because we are moral people.

Good point. For whatever reason, Jeffrey can't seem to comprehend the fact that atheists actually do give money to charitable organizations - or he just hasn't looked hard enough for them.

I think part of the problem for Jeffrey is the word "atheist". Perhaps if you just use the word "secular" you will find that by far the greatest number of charitable works in the world are secular. When an atheist gives money or help to a charity, he does so for secular reasons, not because of his lack of belief in gods. This is a distinction it appears that theists find impossible to contemplate.

Well, you get the point I think Jeffrey. There is tremendous philanthropic and charitable work being done. Sometimes it is done in the name of atheism, but more often it is done for the sake of helping other people, with no mention of religion or atheism as well.

Seems to me that lying is immoral Jeffrey.

Oh my. I don't think you tried at all, Jeffrey. Lying isn't a christian virtue is it?

"Ted Turner, creator of CNN and TBS, is an atheist philanthropist who was named the 1990 Humanist of the Year. Turner has used his fortune to create foundations that support international cooperation and protect the environment. Perhaps his most well-known effort is the United Nations Foundation, which Turner created in 1998 with a commitment of up to $1 billion. The UN Foundation works to educate opinion leaders, policy makers and the general public on the work of the UN and to build global cooperation (while also encouraging the United States to pay its dues.

While Turner has never hidden his distaste for religion, his views became more widely known during his divorce proceedings from Jane Fonda, when both Turner and Fonda stated that one of the major reasons for their divorce was her conversion to Christianity and his continued espousal of atheism.

Free thinkers need not have billions to make a difference. The Institute for Humanist Studies provides funds to humanist groups worldwide through its Grant Fund. Fulfilling its mission of encouraging society to adopt humanist values and ideas and make humanism an influential world view, IHS has awarded $850,000 in grants over the past six years to humanist organizations around the world. "These grants have supported programs that have effectively ...amplified our efforts to bring about a more humanistic world. The Grant Fund has been our most successful and important contribution to humanism," said IHS president Larry Jones.
