Skipping the cursing of parents (as we covered this during our discussion of the fifth Commandment) we come to the “killing” of “owners of murderous oxen.” Exodus 21:28 clearly states if an ox gores someone to death than only the ox should be killed. The owner is only punished if their ox was “in the habit” of goring people to death, the owner was warned yet took no precautions, and the ox kept on killing (Exodus 21:29 ).

Numbers 31:17 also uses a different word for kill than that of the sixth Commandment, not “ratsach” but “harag.” Also, the “girls” were not raped, married or kept as concubines as stated above; there were many laws concerning fornication, concubinage, and even marrying a captive. Educated by the family they stayed with, it was customary to keep them as slaves or employ them as “domestics.”

I’m really not sure what you intended to say about Paul’s quote in 1 Corinthians 6:12 , but perhaps alternate translations will make his message more clear to you?

The sixth Commandment says thou shalt not ratsach. It does not say thou shalt not muwth, thou shalt not harag, nakah, charam or even shachat. There are many words for killing in both the English and Hebrew languages but, of all the possible words, the one that is used in the sixth Commandment is “ratsach;” the word used for “murder.”

And finally, the mention of Jesus saying “Do not kill” in Mark 10:19 and Paul in Romans 13:9 . In both texts the Greek word “phoneuo” is used. Phoneuo means “to be a murderer (of):- kill, do murder, slay.” It is also the word used in James 2:11 , which is the verse quoted in the first paragraph of this reply.

Ecclesiastes 3:3 does not use the word ratsach either; it uses harag

In 1 Samuel 15:3 the words nakah (smite/strike), charam (utterly destroy) and muwth (put to death) are all used, but not the word from the sixth Commandment; ratsach (murder).

“Joshua 1:18 extends the killing to anyone who disobeys Joshua in any way.” Joshua 1:18 is not a law or something God commanded. It is part of a pledge of obedience that his (Joshua’s) officers spouted off to him when he assumed command (after Moses died). What’s more, they used the word muwth, not ratsach.

Deuteronomy 13:6-10 uses the words harag and muwth, but not ratsach. I do not understand the comment made about Paul; he was not leading anyone away from God, quite the opposite really.
