"why shouldn’t we invent and believe in a religion that’s even more absurd than Christianity?" - If you can come up with a religion that is more absurd than one in which teaches that God, the Creator, so loved humans that instead of forcing us to serve Him, He gave us a choice, more absurd than one that teaches that God, the Creator Himself, stepped into the hopeless situation of man's disobedience and took the penalty for their rebellion upon Himself. If you can concoct a religion where the deity is willing to give much more than they ask for, then you should go for it.

I already know the answers because I've heard it before:

"What if you're wrong?"

"The Bible said their would be scoffers and persecuters like you."

"God's ways are not our ways."

"It requires faith, you wouldn't understand."

"Science and reason are the enemy of faith and tools of the devil."

"God made the Bible confusing on purpose." (yes I've heard this arguement)

"Everything is part of god's plan."

Logical questioning doesn't work when a person views the Bible as the divine word of god. Nothing can refute it. With that perspective, a person can explain away anything.

Good questions. On the belief thing, I saw recently a Science Network video in which Steven Pinker said, "The idea that you should believe in something because it is true does not come naturally to people." Could explain a lot....
