America Doesn’t Need Calvin Klein’s Dirt,’ says TV co-host and bestselling author Ray Comfort

NEW YORK (JUNE 17, 2009) – Calvin Klein has placed a new advertisement on a five-story billboard on a building in New York City, which shows half-naked teenagers lying on top of each other in sexually explicit positions.

“Calvin Klein not only reveals that it doesn’t care about the abuse of our women and children, they also show that they have no regard for what God says is right and wrong,” TV co-host and bestselling author Ray Comfort said.

According to Comfort, sex not only sells jeans, it gets massive free publicity on CBS. This week, The Early Show panned and zoomed in on the offensive billboard an amazing sixteen times, as the show’s host interviewed an expert on why she thought it was wrong to show such images in public. Ironically, the expert said that it wasn’t good for children to see such pictures.

Comfort says that there is another reason why Calvin Klein should rethink the tone of its advertising. Presently there are 673,989 registered sex offenders in the United States [1] and hardly a day goes by when a child isn’t abducted, raped, or murdered.

…

Comfort now has a message for Calvin Klein: “Don’t even think of bringing your dirt and dumping it in my neighborhood, because I will be up my ladder with a staple gun in hand before the glue on your smutty image is dry.”

Comfort then released the following image as a more acceptable version of the Calvin Klein advertisement:

“They are further confusing this little boy. I think this is criminal,” he admits.

The parents say the child has expressed a desire to be a girl since he was four years old, and they are helping him live accordingly. Matt Barber of Liberty Counselcontends the parents are “fostering and facilitating a delusion that the child has.”

A Catholic school in Omaha has expelled an eight-year-old boy who thinks he’s a girl.

[Wha - ? A Christian who thinks parents who foster and facilitate delusions in their kid are engaging in criminal behavior?? I think we have a new leading contender for this year's Pot Meet Kettle Award!]

“If these people are going to rebel against God’s natural design — (God’s) indisputable biological, spiritual design for this child — then it is understandable that the child cannot attend this school.”

[Gee, I wonder if Barber was going against God's indisputable natural design by wearing clothes or deodorant when he said this. I wonder if he's ever shaved or had his hair cut or had dental work done or flown in a plane....]

But Barber stresses the action by the school is not the worst of the injuries. “You have to ask, how is this not child abuse to confuse this child? How is this not emotional and spiritual child abuse for these parents to encourage this child’s gender confusion?” he wonders.

[I'll leave it to psychologists to answer that question in rare cases like these. I'm personally much more interested in trying to find an answer to Is Christianity Itself A Form Of Child Abuse? and what we can do to help millions of kids if it is.]

Barber believes that “the parent’s responsibility is to take the child by the hand and steer them in the right direction and help them understand some of the confusing things that children go through in life while growing up — not to help them live a lie.”

[Goodness! If Catholic schools start expelling every student whose parents are helping them live a lie, how many students does Barber think they're going to have left?]

[And really, in this case, what if the student in question happens to be a female trapped in a male body? Wouldn't forcing the student to continue life as a boy be forcing her to continue to live the real lie?]

[And if not allowing students to live a lie is really oh so important to the officials running this particular Catholic school, do they also encourage their gay students to come out rather than live the lie of trying to pass for heterosexuals? Do they fully support and defend those students when they *do* come out? Does Barber and Liberty Counsel? Since the Vatican has repeatedly stressed that homosexuals are inherently disordered, I rather doubt it....]

The case came to light recently when the parents met with school officials to transition the child into the next-higher grade and were told the child would be welcome to continue — but not as a girl. A school official said after three years at the school as a boy, presenting him as a girl would disrupt the learning environment for all the students.

[And of course forcing a student to live inside a dogma-inspired box under threat of expulsion doesn't disrupt the learning environment at all but, rather, summarizes what Catholicism is really all about and has tried to teach for 2000 years - "Conform or face excommunication!" Maybe that's a learning environment that ought to be disrupted, eh?]

This is a bit off of the usual topic, but it is Sunday, so I don’t care. I am looking through the July issue (which arrives in June, you know) of Scientific American and caught this humorous bit in their “50, 100, & 150 years ago” section. This is what Scientific American thought of the game of Chess in its July, 1859 issue:

A pernicious excitement to learn and play chess has spread all over the country, and numerous clubs for practicing this game have been formed in cities and villages. Why should we regret this? It may be asked. We answer, chess is a mere amusement of a very inferior character, which robs the mind of valuable time that might be devoted to nobler acquirements, while it affortds no benefit whatever to the body. Chess has aquired a high reputation as being a means to discipline the mind, but persons engaged in sedentary occupations should never practice this cheerless game; they require out-door exercises – not this sort of mental gladiatorship.

Gee – I wonder what they would have thought about World of Warcraft?

Tucker Lieberman and Richard Wassersug have written an interesting and slightly humorous article titled “Google as God: A Theology of Information Technology” for the most recent issue of American Atheist.

In many ways, Google has become the “God” of the internet. It seems to be all knowing concerning anything and everything that happens online. Its followers are Googlers and its mecca the Googleplex in California. If I didn’t already know better, I might imagine that Google invented the internet. As the authors note, Google can “generate the religious feeling of reverence.” That, at least, is the feeling that I get when I find what I am looking for. “From the altars of our computers, we offer up Web-sites and paid advertisements, and are repaid with the intangible reward of satisfaction. ”

Google, through its Google Maps and Google Earth applications, grants us a god-like view of our world.

Google’s motto, like an omnibenevolent god, is “Don’t be evil” but the search giant is not always merciful. “Web-sites providing alternate content to fool the search engine are punished with excommunication.”

Google, of course, is just a collection of servers and software. Google is not a god. But a case can be made for claiming that Google is better than god. After all, Google does not ask anything of us. It does not get jealous and angry if we decide to switch over to another search engine. And as the authors conclude – “It’s there for us 24 hours a day, its existence is indubitable, and it answers us when we talk to it. What god until today has ever done that?”

Here is a translation from French of an excerpt of a humorous text by François Cavanna, a french atheist writer.

“A Revised Version of Genesis”

1.At the beginning, God created the sky and the earth.
2.No.
3.It’s not like that.
4.Let’s restart from the beginning

1.At the beginning, there was God
2.And nothing else.
3.There could not be anything else as for something to exist, God should have created it.
4.However God have not created anything yet, given it was only the beginning.
5.To create something, not only one should be God
6.but one should know one is God.
7.However, God didn’t know he was God
8.given He was alone.
9.To know one is God, it takes two people.
10.One who is God and another one who says “My God”.
11.Because one cannot be God as such. One can only be the God of someone else
12.However God was alone.
13.This way, God was the God of no one else.
14.I hope you understand everything
15.Otherwise restart and read very slowly
16.It could have taken ages.
17.It happened exactly like that.
18.It lasted a long, long, long time.
19.So long that one should have been God to endure all that.
20.No other beast in the world could have stand it.

1.At the beginning, there was no sky and no earth.
2.There was not even the idea of a sky nor the idea of an earth in God’s mind.
3.There could be only God and what God had created.
4.However God did not even created the idea of a sky nor the idea of an earth yet.
5.He even had not yet created the idea of an idea.
6.He even had not yet created the idea of creating something. One should have been a moment for that, no ?
7.Why God would have created something ? He didn’t need that. God has no need.
8.As God is God.
9.And for God to have a need, He must first create the need.
10.What He is able to do, of course.
11.As God is God.
12.However if God creates the need, He stops to be God.
13.As a God who has a need is not God.
14.God knew that, as he is the supreme intelligence.
15.He knew all that, but what is the use of being God if one cannot do anything ?
16.So He decided to take the risk.
17.And He did well.
18.Because nothing of all this has never been a problem for anybody.
19.Except for the unbelievers and the smart asses, but those ones count for nothing.

So, here is what happened :
1.At the beginning, God created the contradiction.
2.It was a good idea.
3.Now, it can start.
4.It started.
