When we have a hot tub, a pool or a bath tub; one of the most important steps that we must follow is the sanitation of its water since this is an element that can be a carrier of pathogenic germs and substances capable of producing diseases. When its treatment is correct, the water looks transparent and clean, generating the sensation of wanting to immerse us immediately. However, there are times when its appearance is unpleasant because it is not in good condition.
It is a hygienic-sanitary guarantee that the water presents absence of color and turbidity, unpleasant odors and flavors, toxic substances in harmful concentrations and infectious germs. Therefore, it must be treated physically and chemically to eliminate any particle or microorganism that may be disadvantageous.
For physical treatment, filtration equipment is used according to the pool or tub, the material with which it is built and the environment in which it is located. The main function of this device is to filter the particles or impurities suspended in the water. In addition, it also regulates the chemicals used for disinfection and maintains them homogeneously.
This mechanism is composed of two main elements; the first one is the pump, which is what generates the movement of water through a circuit of tubes that collect it, pass it through the filter and return it already filtered. In the second instance, we have the filter, which, as the name implies, filters the water and frees it from those annoying and unwanted molecules.
On the other hand, the chemical treatment of water must be done to keep it free of fungi, bacteria, algae, among others; through the application of specific chemicals for disinfection and sanitization. For doing this, there are several methods. The most common is to place in the water a limited amount of products such as chlorine, bleach, bromine, hydrogen peroxide, algicides, anti-limescale, flocculants, pH regulators, etc…
Nonetheless, people have also created options to sanitize water that do not require the use of any type of artificial substance. Among them, we have, first of all, ozonators or ozone generators, devices capable of creating triatomic molecules that contain three oxygen atoms by generating an electrical voltage that produces ozone and negative ions. Ozone is a powerful oxidant that does not pollute but renews and oxygenates the air and water eliminating odors and harmful agents. In addition, its application does not alter in any way the pH of the liquid, which represents an advantage over the use of other cleaning methods.
After carrying out the processes of disinfection and purification of water, its maintenance is the most important step to follow. You should check the pH and chlorine level daily to be able to keep track of it. At the same time, the formation of foams, which are air dispersions inside liquids containing surfactants, proteins and starches created by the agitation of water when it contains high concentrations of dissolved organic matter, should be avoided.
To achieve this last point, it is advisable to use defoamers for tubs or pools, these have properties that directly attack the surfactants to prevent the formation and accumulation of foam that can be destructive to the mechanical elements of our device and, in the same way, alter the biological processes of water.
It is important to perform the process of cleaning and hygiene of water considering factors such as climate and environment. Also, it is advisable to study the type of reaction that can be generated when coming into contact with the chemical that we are going to use. Remember that maintaining the health of water prevents the spread of diseases and viruses.
